Description: |
Peter McDonald will lead us in a workshop on Strumming Techniques.
This session is appropriate for all levels of ability.
Even accomplished ukulele players will benefit from a brush up in technique.
General Notes:
- There are many different strumming patterns a song can be played in
- It is unhelpful to claim “there is only one way to play (strum)” – people develop their own individual styles
- However, there are some general strumming patterns that are used universally – this session will be focussing on these basic strums
- Be aware that players can become ‘stuck’ on one strumming pattern - that pattern may not always be appropriate for every song
- The aim of strumming is to match the strumming pattern to the rhythm of the song
A document is attached with an outline of the session.
Fran Paddington will do an alternative workshop on Fingerpicking
Continuing on from last time with some foundation techniques for picking on the ukulele. Focusing on:-
-
Hand position, fingers and thumb, how to pick the strings
-
String names and numbers
-
Finger and thumb names- general for TAB
-
How to read TAB
The two songs that we will pick along to are “House of the Rising Sun” and “Hallelujah”.
Then we will work on the picking intro to "Hotel California", continuing with the strum pattern for this song from the last session. Hope you’ve been practicing!!
